You are invited to participate in a study of musicians’ attitudes towards the use of the Internet. The purpose of the study is to gain insight into how musicians feel about new technologies, and how it is affecting their work– particularly in the area of copyright and unauthorised distribution.
The study is being conducted by:
Dr Sherman Young and Dr Steve Collins,
Media Department, Macquarie University
(02) 9850 6778
E-mail: sherman.young@mq.edu.au
If you decide to participate, you will be asked answer a number of questions. Most will require multiple-choice answers, but a few will require a little more detail. The survey should take no more than 10 minutes.
Any information or personal details gathered in the course of the study are confidential. No individual will be identified in any publication of the results. Only the researchers cited above will have access to the data.
The researchers are seeking information about participant's attitudes and practices with regards to their own music but are not interested in uncovering breaches of the law on the part of participants or others. Therefore participants are advised not to comment on any illegal practices about which they may have information.
The results of the research will be published, both online and in an appropriate academic forum. A summary of results will be made available on the Music 2.0 website. Please contact the reseachers directly if you would like to be notified of impending publication or if you request feedback regarding the study.
This research is funded by an internal Macquarie University Research Grant.
